This walking tour begins at historic Grand Army Plaza, where you'll see the famous Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch. From there, we'll begin our journey of the highlights of Prospect Park. We'll journey past the Long Meadow, the best people-watching spot in Brooklyn, toward the famous Picnic House. From there, we continue into the Ravine, Brooklyn's only forest. Other sites we'll see include the children's carousel near the zoo, the Lefferts Historic House, the Prospect Park Boathouse and Audubon Center, beautiful arches and bridges, before finally ending at the restored Lakeside Center.
This park feels much more alive than its Manhattan counterpart, with baseball games, barbecuing, drummers grove, the dog beach, and tons of Brooklyn energy.
Along the way, your guide will recount the history of Olmsted and Vaux's Brooklyn masterpiece and how their experiences with Central Park shaped this park's trajectory. Hear how Vaux's decision to scrap the original plan led to the creation of the nearby Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
