Once the heart of Manhattan's immigrant communities and tenements, today the Lower East Side is rapidly changing. One part of that change today is a massive art scene, from street art to murals to galleries!
On this 2-hour walking tour, your guide will show you the coolest street art in the area. There will be plenty of opportunity for photos, while we travel from the East Village to Nolita to Little Italy and SoHo. As we walk these streets, your guide will explain the history & evolution of the graffiti art-form. Most importantly, your guide will help you find the best of the ever-changing street art scene there… including some of the most legendary spots for it in New York.
Learn the different techniques and styles of graffiti. You will see dozens of unique and colorful pieces, of all sizes and types: traditional graffiti, massive murals, wheatpaste, and much more. You will see pieces from street artists such as Space Invader, Eduardo Kobra, Shepard Fairey, Tristan Eaton, Cost, Hektad, Solus, Buff Monster, and countless others. You will see pieces from the ambitious, recently-completed 100 Gates Project, which paired street artists with small businesses to beautify the neighborhood's roll-down gates.
We also discuss the controversies and battles within this community of artists, as it plays out on NYC streets.
This is a leisurely tour, comfortable for all-ages. Perfect for photographers or those interested in learning more about street art.
Available as a private tour only.
