This is a great, private 2.5-hour walking tour of the landmarks of midtown Manhattan.
Learn how the Art Deco age came to define the New York skyline for nearly a century.
A great tour for those who want to get the most out of their time in midtown, with countless photo opportunities.
This tour will start near Bryant Park, as we begin to explore the history of midtown and its many Art Deco and Beaux-Arts architectural masterpieces. We will dive into the world of landmarking in NYC, and the constant battle between preservation and progress.
Our journey will begin down East 42nd Street, where we will see numerous historic buildings. This stretch will include several early, key Art Deco masterpieces... including the gorgeous Chrysler Building, and many lesser-known buildings like the Chanin Building, Bowery Savings Bank Building, 500 5th Avenue, and more. You will be blown away!
We will also visit Grand Central Terminal, the world's largest train terminal, and one of NYC's most beautiful interior spaces. We will discuss why it is the most consequential landmark in American history.
After a stop along the way to one of crown jewels of Art Deco landmarks in the city, we will make our way to Rockefeller Center. It is here that the tour ends, and your journey in midtown may continue.
This is a expansive tour, and good for all ages.
Past customers have said: “Jeremy is knowledgeable and informative. He inspired us to look more deeply at the environment around us. Walking through the streets and stopping to reflect on the art, architecture and cityscape around us gave an insight that the guidebooks couldn't.” “Loved seeing not only the close-up view of each building but also, the distant "secret" views that only Jeremy could offer from his research as a historian. Wealth of knowledge, personable, and well worth the morning spent together”
